Interlock Program:

WILL I GET AN INTERLOCK?

Interlocks are required by law for the following offenders:

  • All drink driving offences after October 2014

Interlock may be imposed for the following offenders:

  • Drink driving offences prior to October 2014

If required, alcohol interlocks must be installed before you get your licence and/or learner permit back.

Blood alcohol reading, number of offences, dates of offences and some other factors will also determine your requirements.  To clarify the length of your interlock condition, please speak to the Vic Roads relicencing team at 1300 723 790.

Once your interlock has been fitted, we advise that you regularly check your interlock progress by logging into The Alcohol Interlock Management System (AIMS)

www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/licences/demerit-points-and-offences/drink-and-drug-driving-offences/alcohol-interlock-management-system

Once you register, you'll have access to:

  • monthly progress summaries
  • your results for each month (pass, fail, absent)
  • a visual summary of your progress score
  • tools to help you review and contest any violations
  • your Participant Progress Report
  • information on your Interlock end date

HOW DO I GET AN INTERLOCK REMOVED?

  • you need to have used the interlock for at least six months in the last 12 months and
  • in your most recent six months of usage, you must not have had an alcohol reading when you attempted to start your vehicle.

If you were required to attend the Intensive BCP before being relicenced you will also need to complete the Pre Interlock Removal Program (PIRP)

This program must be completed towards the end of your required alcohol interlock period of use and prior to applying to have your alcohol interlock licence condition removed.
